Sephardic Research Foundation
The Sephardic Research Foundation is a Netherlands-registered charity (RSIN 866858003) focused on the structured study of Jewish historical populations.
Its work combines archival research, data extraction, and structured analysis, with the aim of making dispersed historical material usable at scale.
Sephardic Genealogical Society
The Foundation’s public-facing work is carried out through the Sephardic Genealogical Society.
Over the past five years, the Society has developed a substantial audience for high-quality material on Sephardic history and genealogy through lectures, publications, and digital dissemination.
The Sephardic Genealogical Society is an associate member of the International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies.
Track record
The project builds on an established programme of work, including:
- ongoing archival research into the Western Sephardic diaspora
- public lectures and educational material
- development of structured approaches to genealogical and historical data
- early application of AI-assisted transcription to early modern sources
This work has demonstrated both sustained audience demand and the practical ability to engage with complex archival material.
Current work
The present project represents the next stage of this activity.
Work is currently focused on a London-based proof of concept, applying a structured methodology to extract, standardise, and link archival data across sources.
Development is incremental, with each stage producing usable structured data.
Approach
The project combines:
- subject expertise in Sephardic history and genealogy
- direct engagement with archival sources
- practical experience in structured data development
It is designed as cumulative infrastructure, where each additional dataset increases the long-term value of the platform.
